Wellington and Aquinas Year 9 and 10 Home Economics students recently participated in a 2 day Shared Education event.
On day one they met at Aquinas to be assigned to groups, have a cookery demonstration from Chef Jeffers from the Forestside Cookery School and then each group was allocated a country from around the world. In their groups they had to research foods from that country and choose a range of dishes they would then make together on Day 2.
Day 2 took place in the ...Forestside Cookery School where each group then prepared, cooked and served the food from their country – Mexico, India, Spain and China. The standard of cooking was fantastic with a range of challenging and skilful dishes on show including homemade chorizo bread and naan breads, wontons and spring rolls, churros with chocolate sauce and Mexican brownies.
Final dishes were then judged by Chef Jeffers, representatives from the EA Shared Education programme and Lee Cutler, Manager of Forestside Shopping Centre. It was a very close call but it was decided that the winning group were Spain.
Then the fun began as we all got to tuck in and try each groups dishes - a fantastic day was had by all involved.
